Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems

Chloe Sarginson, Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems student, discusses how her distance learning course has given her the skills she needs to pursue a career in Health and Safety.

What made you choose to study at Selby College?

I chose Selby College for my distance learning because I was already familiar with the College after completing my A Levels there. Following this, I didn’t want to go to University and noticed that the College was advertising distance learning courses on Facebook through lockdown which caught my attention. After being put on furlough by my current job, I decided to enrol on to the College’s Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems course.

What were the benefits of distance learning?

The main benefits for me were that I could study in my own time and around my daily routine. Studying the Mental Health Awareness course was brilliant for my own mental health during lockdown as it kept my mind active. The support my tutor Jenn gave me was brilliant – she is an asset to the distance learning team. She was always so kind and gave me great feedback and anecdotes to help me with my studies and to apply the different modules to real life situations. All of the e-books for the course were also easy to access and were an immense help throughout the course.

What are your plans for the future?

The course has been a huge benefit for my career development and has helped to pave a path to my dream job in health and safety. Mental health and wellbeing are a huge part of working safely and keeping the workforce motivated. I would highly recommend the distance learning courses at Selby College and would definitely consider doing another one in the future.
