Entry Requirements:Standard Level 2 entry requirements apply - the minimum requirement is at least four
GCSEs at Grade 3, one of which will be in English or Maths. Neither English nor Maths will be below Grade 2. At least two GCSE subjects at Grade 3 are required alongside GCSE equivalent qualifications. Please note: If you have not achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and/or Maths you will be required to continue studying these alongside your college course.

If so, then this is the course for you. What about using visual programming to put commands into a Lego Mindstorm EV3? Want to learn to create concept art and design computer games?

This exciting new qualification introduces creative and innovative features and is designed to provide specialist work-related skills in IT. It will give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to progress to Further Education and training in the IT sector.

Skills that are developed throughout the course include team-working, working from a prescribed brief, working to deadlines and presenting information effectively.

Your Course

The course is made up of three mandatory units and a combination of optional/specialist units.

Mandatory Units:

  • The Online World
  • Technology Systems
  • A Digital Portfolio

You will then choose six optional units from:

  • Creating Digital Graphics
  • Mobile Apps Development
  • Computer Networks
  • Website Development
  • Installing and Maintaining Computer Hardware
  • Automated Computer Systems
  • Multimedia Products Development

Students will also be required to attend tutorial sessions. As part of your programme you will be expected to complete work experience which will involve travelling. The course is broadly equivalent to four GCSEs and lasts one year for those who wish to progress to Level 3.

For those planning on entering employment directly, there will be an extended two-year programme (BTEC Level 2 First Diploma in Information and Creative Technology).

Progression

On successful completion of this course with a Merit or Distinction, you will be able to go on to one of the higher level courses such as the Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT, an Apprenticeship or enter employment.
