Selby College has welcomed the Government’s new incentives to help support employers in recruiting apprentices and getting the economy growing again.
This comes following Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s announcement last week that the Government will offer a brand new bonus to employers to help create new apprenticeships over the next six-months.
As of August 1st, any employer that hires a new apprentice aged 16 to 24 will receive £2,000, while those that hire new apprentices aged 25 and over will be paid £1,500. The bonus will be in addition to the existing £1,000 incentive the Government already provides for new 16 to 18 year-old apprentices.
“The Government’s new bonus scheme is a fantastic incentive for both employers and potential apprentices and demonstrates a significant investment in the country’s future workforce,” said Paul Cliff, Assistant Director of Business Development at Selby College. “Apprentices will be vital to the recovery of the UK’s economy following the pandemic and the College is on hand to help ensure employers have the support available and the confidence to take on apprentices, as well as create new apprenticeship roles.”
As part of the new initiative, Selby College will help employers understand the different funding opportunities available, as well as provide a free recruitment service to help advertise vacancies and secure the right apprentices. The College will also ensure that the employer and apprentice have complete support throughout the Apprenticeship scheme from a dedicated tutor.
Selby College offers a range of Apprenticeships at all levels. As the largest provider of Apprenticeship training in the area, the College successfully works in partnership with a wide range of employers across Yorkshire and The Humber.
Siemens Mobility has also recently selected Selby College as its training partner for its brand new rail facility in Goole. The apprentices will spend their first year at the College developing core engineering skills, as part of a comprehensive three-year training programme beginning in September 2020.
The bonus is part of the Government’s significant investment in jobs and skills, with funding for jobs, Apprenticeships, work placements and traineeships, as well as its new kickstart scheme.
For adult kickstarters (over 18), Selby College offers highly flexible adult learning courses such as the Opportunity Escalator and an English and Maths provision which are free to complete and help with further progression. Selby College will also offer six-month traineeships to help prepare students to enter the workplace.
The College also supports learners and employers in securing work placements, drawing up plans and administering funding to enable employers to access the work placement support funding required for their businesses.
