Selby College welcomes Primary students for District Cross Country Finals

On Wednesday 9th October the Selby District Cross Country Finals were held at Selby College.

Students from 30 local primary schools were involved including Camblesforth Community Primary School, Barlow Church of England Primary School, Staynor Hall Community Primary Academy, Appleton Roebuck Primary School, South Milford Primary School, Riverside School Tadcaster and Selby Abbey CE Primary School.

The top eight students from each school's year group qualified to race in today's event, following last month’s competitions at Selby High School and Tadcaster Grammar School on the 19th September.

The Primary children raced in four different categories with Boys’ and Girls’ competitions for Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and an Inclusive Category.

The younger students ran two laps of the College playing fields to cover 1200m, with Year 5 running 1500m and the Inclusive race covering 900m.

The winners will progress to the North Yorkshire Primary Schools’ Final at Dalby Forest on the 5th November.

Thank you to the Selby College Sports department staff that helped oversee the running of the event and Level 2 Sports students that marshalled the races.

Well done to the runners that took part, you were all fantastic!
