Selby College Ranks in Top 5 in Yorkshire for Degree-Level Satisfaction

National Student Survey (NSS) results have revealed that Selby College is amongst the top five higher education institutions in Yorkshire for Overall Student Satisfaction, achieving a score of 86%, above the national average of 82%.

Selby College also achieved 90% satisfaction in regards to teaching of its Higher Education courses.

The College ranked in the top five in Yorkshire alongside four other Colleges, highlighting the significant benefit of carrying out degree-level study within a College environment. At Selby College, students are able to study in a local, friendly and supportive environment and have smaller class sizes than a traditional university, which ensures they have enough time with their lecturers and the support they need to progress.

The NSS gathers opinions from students about their time in Higher Education, which provides honest feedback on what it has been like to study on their course and at their university/college.

“We’re delighted that our degree-level programmes have received an 86% overall student satisfaction rate, ranking the College within the top five in Yorkshire,” said Phil Sayles, Selby College Principal and Chief Executive. “We are continuously expanding and improving our Higher Education offering with new courses, providing our students with a route to progress and enabling adults across the region to upskill themselves to reach their dream careers.”

Selby College works with a range of universities and awarding bodies including the University of Huddersfield, the University of Hull and Pearson to deliver its higher education provision. Its degree-level qualifications include Higher National Certificates and Diplomas, Foundation Degrees and full BA/BSc (Hons) Degrees across Art & Design, Business, Computing, Childcare, Engineering, Teacher Training, Criminology and Sports Science.

The College has also recently introduced two brand-new Access to Higher Education programmes in Criminal Justice and Science. The diplomas enable those without traditional entry-level requirements to access their dream professions by allowing them to develop a range of academic and study skills to prepare for progression. The Criminal Justice programme will run from this September alongside the College’s existing Access Diploma in Health Science, with the Science course launching in September 2021.

“The NSS results come at a pivotal time, as many look to carry out their degree-level studies closer to home or within a college environment due to the coronavirus pandemic,” said Stephen Mulligan, Assistant Director for Higher Education at Selby College. “At Selby College, we are committed to working with our university partners to provide a range of high-quality courses which are affordable and delivered locally, and the NSS results further echo this.”
