Students on the Higher National Diploma in Art and Design from Selby College have recently embarked upon an exciting artistic partnership with York’s newest arts and culture hub, Spark:York. The students worked closely with the Spark team to get the space ready for an exhibition comprising of samples from their current college final projects and some thought-provoking new pieces. The work on display is a mixture of Fine Art, Photography and Graphic Design.
The students’ work will be displayed in a commercial event space in the city centre hotspot and includes a typographical piece using Yorkshire slang phrases, intended to spark friendly debate. Other pieces to be showcased includes photography of both the Yorkshire landscape and familiar sights from around the city captured in a different light, encouraging the viewers to look more closely.
Kate Grafton, Lecturer in Art and Design said, “Spark have been really supportive in giving our students a platform from which they can share their work with the general public. All the students have produced different and exciting pieces and they hope the work resonates with the residents of York.”
The official opening night of the exhibition is on Friday 11th May from 6 – 8pm, where people will have the opportunity to meet the artists who will be graduating from Selby College in a few weeks’ time.
The exhibition runs until the 24th May at Spark:York on Piccadilly.
