Graduation Ceremony at Selby Abbey
Our Higher Education Graduation Ceremony is a fantastic opportunity for our HE students to share their success with the loved ones who have supported them throughout their studies. Held at the outstanding Selby Abbey, we make sure the ceremony is a memorable occasion for all, reflecting our students’ amazing achievements; many gain their qualifications alongside demanding jobs and family pressures, amongst other life hurdles, making for an extremely proud day for everyone involved.
The ceremony sees special guest professors from validating partners University of Hull and University of Huddersfield in attendance, as well as local VIPs including senior members of North Yorkshire County Council, Selby District Council and Selby Town Council, alongside local employers and college governors.
The event highlights the main aim of our higher education division which has always been to ensure the local communities we serve in Selby, Goole and the surrounding areas have access to high-quality and affordable degree-level courses on their doorstep. Our Silver TEF award confirms that we are not only achieving this aim, but the services we provide are of the highest quality and compare equally with similar courses offered at far larger universities.
Higher Education Graduation Ceremony 2019
This year's HE Graduation Ceremony will take place at Selby Abbey on Friday 11th October, starting at 3.30pm. If you’re graduating this year, you should have now received an email about booking your tickets, gowning and photography.

How do I book my place?

What if I book then realise I can’t come?
Don’t worry, just let us know you’re not coming and we’ll alter our programme and running order accordingly – please ensure you let us know in advance if you have to cancel.
Do I have to attend?
The graduation ceremony is not compulsory and not attending won’t affect your qualification. However, it’s a wonderful occasion for you to celebrate your achievements with your family and friends so we would recommend attending.
How much does graduation cost?

Do I have to wear a gown?
As the ceremony is a formal occasion, we do request that you wear the relevant academic dress (cap and gown).
Please have your head circumference, chest and height measurements ready and have your credit/debit card details available before you book your gown. Book early to be sure of your order and don’t leave it any later than 21 days before the ceremony. Print out your order confirmation and bring it with you on the day so your order can be processed quickly.
When do I have to return my gown?
Gowns need to be returned straight after the ceremony has finished in Selby Abbey, which will close at 5.30pm; if you do not return it before this time you will be charged.
How many guests can I bring?
Due to the capacity limit at Selby Abbey, we can only guarantee two guest tickets per graduand. We will then hold a reserve list for additional ticket requests, which can be specified when you book. Tickets will be sent out prior to the event in the post and will need to be shown on arrival.
Are there any refreshments?
Guests will receive complimentary light refreshments at Selby Abbey after the event.
Schedule of the Day:
1-3pm – Gowning and photography at Selby Abbey
3-3.30pm – Graduands and guests to be seated in Selby Abbey
3.30-5pm – Graduation Ceremony takes place
5-6pm – Ceremony closes, light refreshments served and gowns to be returned at Selby Abbey
