College’s Diplomas enable adults to access their dream careers

Thursday 28 July 2022

Selby College is helping people without the traditional requirements for degree-level study to fast track their way to university with its Access to Higher Education Diplomas.

The one-year programmes are designed to provide learners with the relevant knowledge and study skills they need if they’ve been out of education and want to successfully complete a degree course.

The College’s Access to Higher Education Diploma in Health Science Professions programme has already enabled a number of students to progress onto degree-level study in their chosen subjects, as well as upskill in their existing careers.

I’ve been a Dental Nurse for over eight years now but the Access to Higher Education Diploma gave me the opportunity to progress onto a Dental Hygiene and Therapy degree at Newcastle University to further build my skills. What I really liked about the course is that it is predominantly essay writing, which meant that I didn’t have to face the pressure of completing exams at the end of term.

I chose to study at Selby College as it has a great reputation and is my local College. I really enjoyed the structure of the course and being able to interact with like-minded people in my class. I plan to use my Diploma to progress onto Higher Education and I already have three conditional offers from a range of universities to study Midwifery, which will help me fulfil my dream of becoming a Midwife.
