Art & Design Selby 950 exhibition at Selby Abbey

Higher Education Art & Design students at Selby College are returning to Selby Abbey for their second exhibition to coincide with the Selby 950 celebrations.

The group of 16 students, studying for their Higher National Diploma in Art & Design (Arts Practice) will be exhibiting throughout the Abbey from Saturday 8th June until Thursday 13th June.

Selby 950 is a celebration of the 950th anniversary of the Abbey’s foundation and the role it plays in Selby’s history. As well as celebrating Selby Abbey, it will also be a celebration of other key aspects of the town’s heritage. The College’s exhibition celebrates and recognises the work of its HND Art & Design students, in response to the anniversary.

The group have investigated the life of Selby Abbey and taken inspiration from archive material to produce a wide range of work and responses, including a projected performance piece and light work, as well as a 3D projection of the Abbey as an architectural design.

Alongside the interactive installations and information graphics which plot the history of the Abbey and its ever-evolving life within the local community, there will also be graphical responses to the history of the Abbey with information stands, bookwork and leaflets.

The Selby College ‘Selby 950 Exhibition’ in Selby Abbey will be open to the general public from Saturday 8th June until Thursday 13th June, from 10am-4pm each day. Entry is free.
