This subject will develop your ability to use both quantitative and qualitative evidence to evaluate arguments and support judgements relating to economic issues. You will explore economic theories and models and apply them to a range of issues, for example how businesses operate in various markets, how wages are determined and how and why government seeks to intervene in the national economy.

  • Individual economic decision making (including behavioural economics)
  • The operation of markets
  • Market structures
  • The labour market
  • Market failure and government intervention
  • The national economy and government economic policies
  • The international economy

Economics complements a range of science and social science subject combinations and therefore pathways to different degree courses. Note that to take Economics to degree level it is advisable to take A Level Mathematics.
