Selby College’s Sport Department are proud to announce Level 3 student Jessica Cullip as their Ambassador for the nationwide ‘This Girl Can’ programme, in conjunction with AoC Sport.
‘This Girl Can’ is a celebration of active women who are ‘doing their thing’ no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their face gets. Funded by The National Lottery and developed by Sport England, the programme aims to help participants overcome the fear of judgement that is stopping too many women and girls from joining in with sport.
The former Brayton Academy student, who won ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ back in May at the college’s annual Sports Awards, was handpicked from applicants across the country. Her success meant she was sent to Darlington to receive specialised training on both engaging with female participants and successful advertising strategies for the sessions at college.
Ed Grady, Sports Development Officer said: “Unfortunately, across the country there is a growing trend for girls who were involved in competitive sports teams and exercise before leaving school to give up once they progress into further education. We know Jess will do a great job in motivating her peers and show that it is possible to be actively involved and balance part-time work and study commitments.”
Jessica will be working with the Sports Department in the New Year to get more students out on the field or back in the gym!
