There was cause for celebration at top-performing Selby College on Thursday 8th February, as Simon Harris, a volunteer member of staff in the college’s Refectory, was awarded his bronze certificate for 20 years’ service.
College staff alongside members of Simon’s family gathered in the Refectory to watch him receive his award, presented by college Principal and Chief Executive Allan Stewart OBE. Allan thanked Simon for his long and meritorious service, praising him for his consistent service with a smile and willingness to help the team.
Simon began volunteering for Selby College in 1998 when he was just 18-years-old, and has continued to provide excellent service to the Catering team ever since. He is now the team’s longest serving member of staff. Bev Welsh, Catering Manager said, “Simon is always willing to take on any task that I ask of him and has a friendly attitude towards both staff and students. Simon has become more than a volunteer, he is a very valued member of the team and we really miss him on Fridays when he isn’t here!”
Simon added, “I was very surprised and pleased to receive this award. I love working at Selby College and getting the chance to speak to different people every day.”
