Selby College Sixth Form Courses Provided In Goole

Selby College is to provide Sixth Form courses at Goole Academy as from September in a new partnership agreement that will see existing learners at the Boothferry Road campus able to continue their studies in Goole, whilst also benefitting from a full range of pastoral care, careers advice and other forms of learning support delivered by staff from both organisations.

The top-performing local college has a history of recruiting learners from Goole and the surrounding area, with over 40 per cent of learners travelling to Selby to study the wide range of courses offered at the Abbot’s Road campus, but this new arrangement offers greater benefits for learners.

As Allan Stewart OBE, Principal and Chief Executive at Selby College said, The partnership ensures young people at Goole Academy gain from the wide range of support offered to students in Selby whilst at the same time offering the opportunity to progress after completing their studies at Goole Academy into higher level further and higher education courses and Apprenticeships offered here in Selby.

Allan added, “We have worked closely with colleagues at Goole Academy and believe this joint approach benefits everyone.”

New Principal at Goole Academy, Rob Allsop, said the ‘exciting’ link up with Ofsted-rated outstanding college meant another step forward in its Sixth Form provision, adding, “Many 16 year olds from the area choose to study at Selby College already and this partnership will benefit all of our students.”

Rob added, “Selby College has a reputation as one of the country’s top-performing colleges, recently achieving No1 position in Yorkshire and No2 position in England in a report that used Government data to compare Further Education colleges.”

Initially two BTEC Level 3 Diplomas in Health and Social Care and Sports Development, Coaching and Fitness will be offered at Goole Academy with Selby College’s dedicated team of teaching and support staff working alongside Goole Academy colleagues to provide support to learners, but it is hoped this range will expand providing a range of exciting choices for young people to study on site.
