Public Services hold Remembrance Service at Selby College

Thank you to everyone who came to show their support at the Remembrance event held by Public Services last Friday morning. The Public Service students once again joined forces with the Army to organise a Remembrance Service for the college to pay our respects to all those who gave their lives for our freedom.

Following an overwhelming response from last years’ event, the students involved were once again

impressed by the number of staff and fellow students who came together in the Sports Hall to remember those who have given their lives. Prior to the two-minute silence, guest speakers including Sargent Andy Brown, Warrant Office Pill Bowler and public services students read poems and spoke of their personal experiences of conflict.

The Royal British Legion were present with a standard bearer during the event, and there was also a Last Post bugle call. Selby College would like to say thank you to the members of the Armed forces who spoke during the service and to commend the professionalism of public services students’ who collectively organised the event.

After the service the Level 3 Public Services students were joined by members of the Army, Police and Royal British Legion to gather round the flag poles outside college.

Special thanks to Public Services lecturer Laura Stanworth for organising the event, Hospitality & Catering for the amazing poppy cake, Travel & Tourism for supplying the refreshments and serving them.

We will remember them.
