National Apprenticeship Week at Selby College

As the areas largest provider of Apprenticeships, Selby College celebrated National Apprenticeship Week with a series of events aimed both at prospective Apprentices and employers including drop in sessions for current students and employers.

Selby College Business Services staff also visited local schools and Selby Job Centre to promote the programme.

As Julie Scott, Business Services Manager said, “Apprenticeships have always been a great way to learn particular skills on the job, whilst also enabling individuals to gain qualifications; earning a salary whilst they learn.”

Julie added, “The Apprenticeship programme has seen some substantial changes, with people of any age being able to access the funded support regardless of their prior qualifications. Individuals can also now study a new or advanced subject related to their job role whilst earning a salary.”

From April 2017, Apprenticeship funding is changing including the introduction of the Apprenticeship Levy. The government is putting control of the funding directly in the hands of employers.

The new reforms present fantastic opportunities for local businesses and the college is encouraging them to get in touch for a free consultation to see how taking on an apprentice could be an exciting new step for them.
