Two first-year A Level students studying English Literature, Beth Brown and Chandler Farley Charles, recently had their work selected for publication in the Yorkshire edition of the Young Writers ‘Welcome to Wonderland’ anthology, as part of a mini saga-writing competition.
The former Selby High School students were challenged to create a fictional world and then write a story in just 100 words, inspired by their world. Beth’s tale was entitled, ‘The Shadows’ and Chandler called his piece, ‘The Vorpal Plain’.
English Lecturer, Trish MacLean, said she was “very proud of their achievements” and added, “it is great to see students using their creative writing skills and being successful in competitions.
"Such successes are really influential when they are included in UCAS applications for universities and help make the students stand out in the selection process."
