Doing What? Currently working as Key Stage 4 Manager as part of the Senior Management Team at Brayton High School. Prior to this position Tom worked as a Behaviour & Attendance Worker at the school, and as a Teaching Assistant at Tadcaster Grammar School. His dream is to become a Physical Education teacher, furthering that he would like to complete his Masters and become a Head of Department.

When Tom O’Neill enrolled on the National Diploma in BTEC Sport back in 2009, he had no idea that he would end up spending the next five years at Selby College. However, choosing to stay at Selby to complete his Higher Education qualifications made perfect sense.

The lifelong sports fan had merely wanted to indulge his passion, but ended up exceeding even his wildest dreams. He said: “I loved my time at Selby College from the year I started in 2009, right through to 2014. The low cost, the location, the teaching, the class sizes all suited me perfectly! I know a lot of my friends wished they had done the same thing and stayed at college as they couldn’t cope with the huge class sizes at University.”

Tom was also able to take advantage of a number of great opportunities such as coaching the college football team, going into schools to build on his teaching experience, careers advice and trips to London to see the Olympic site, Wembley and Twickenham.

Tom said: “The best thing about taking a course at Selby College was that the teaching was brilliant! The staff at Selby College helped me to get on my way to achieve my goals and helped me map out my career path. “

In less than two years after achieving a 2:1 in his degree Tom has already seen how quickly his career path has developed. Where could Selby College take you?
