Doing What? A true MasterChef in the making, Kurtus has concocted the recipe for success after winning a number of coveted competitions in the Hospitality and Catering field.

Success is something of an ongoing story when it comes to Kurtus, most recently he was awarded the title of ‘The Golden Apron’ in a competition held by Michelin-starred Chef, James Mackenzie, Chef-owner of the Pipe and Glass Inn, South Dalton.

As part of the winner’s prize, Kurtus was offered a work placement at local food production company Cranswick Plc and will launch a new product range with competition sponsors, ASDA to be sold in their stores. Kurtus has worked alongside James Mackenzie to create three delicious ‘roasts with a twist’ as part of the high street chains ‘Extra Special' range, due to launch in stores next month.

Kurtus was also invited on to local radio channel, Minster FM alongside James Mackenzie to talk about his title of ‘The Golden Apron 2015’ and what is coming up next for the rising star.

Since hailing as ‘Yorkshire’s Best Young Chef’, Kurtus has gone on to secure a position at top Gordon Ramsay restaurant Maze in Mayfair, London, beating off fierce competition to land the role which will initially involve preparing starters for service.

Having previously worked as a Commis Chef at The Fat Abbot in Escrick, Kurtus is accustomed to the long working hours and the high level of commitment that is required to be a Chef, and if this isn’t enough Kurtus has enrolled on to Italian classes on his day off to help him communicate with the vast majority of Italian nationals working alongside him at the restaurant.

Staff in the Hospitality and Catering Department at Selby College were keen to congratulate Kurtus on his new role, adding: “We are extremely proud of everything Kurtus has achieved during his time here and we wish him every success in his new job at Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant Maze. Kurtus has a bright future ahead of him and we are positive we will be dining in a restaurant with his name on it in the future.”
