Josh Maxfield had never really understood Maths at school so it was no surprise that he only gained a grade D in his GCSE. However, determined to improve his job prospects he decided to retake the subject when he enrolled at Selby College.
After a few months at college something suddenly “clicked” and Josh started to understand Maths more, so much so that he decided to study an AS Level in the subject. This in turn sparked his interest in Engineering and led to him swapping ‘A’ Levels for the BTEC National.
Having been named Engineering student of the year in 2010 Josh has never looked back and now on the verge of completing his Degree he has ambitions to further his education with a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He said; “I wouldn’t have been able to go on to Higher Education without the help and support of both the Maths and Engineering staff at Selby College. Maths was never my strongest subject, but they made me enjoy it and more importantly understand it; without their guidance I wouldn’t be where I am today!”
