Who is this course aimed at?
The Access to HE (Health Science Professions) is a programme designed specifically for adults who wish to develop their academic and health science-related practice to prepare for admission to Higher Education. This programme offers students the opportunity to develop a range of academic and study skills to prepare for progression. The programme is aimed at people who are returning to education and employed in health science sectors, people seeking qualifications to enable them to gain employment or change their career path and those preparing to study at a higher level in this sector.
What will I study?
This full-time programme is run over the course of 1 year. The course explores the needs and experiences of children and investigates how education shapes their development. It aims to develop professional and practical skills such as planning, assessment and teamwork, enhancing your employability and building a solid foundation for further study.
What can I do after the course?
The Access to Higher Education Diploma prepares you for study at degree level. If you would like to go to university then the Access to Higher Education course is the ideal course for you.
GCSE English at Grade C or above.
Most universities expect students to have grade C in Mathematics when they apply for their Higher Education course and many are no longer accepting other Level 2 equivalents in literacy and numeracy. You are advised to check the requirements with your chosen higher education institution. Students applying for health care related courses are also likely to need a grade C in GCSE Science. It may be possible to study for these qualifications whilst undertaking the Access programme at Selby College.
