The Best Companies Award is given to organisations, via a confidential survey, and asks how good the company is to work for. Key aspects of the survey included the college's leadership, management performance, team working and how fairly it treated employees.
Every organisation that enters Best Companies Accreditation is given a Best Companies Index (BCI) score. This score (on a scale of 1 to 1,000) is defined from employee's responses to the 54 questions with the Best Companies employee survey. Selby College first achieved the one star First Class organisation to work for status in the 2009 Awards.
Selby College was the first and only College in Yorkshire to achieve
the award in 2009.
In November 2007, Selby College became the first college in Yorkshire and the Humber, and one of only a handful of colleges in England to achieve a full set of Outstanding grades, following its inspection by independent Government inspectors. Since that time, due to its consistently high student results it has maintained its outstanding status, and is still only one of few colleges to be graded outstanding in all areas.
